Spotlight on Philanthropy: Starkey Hearing Foundation

One of the best parts of Greek life is that each organization devotes time to philanthropic work. We love making custom apparel for each chapter’s philanthropy events; we’re so proud to play a small part in helping students raise money, increase awareness, and complete service projects all over the country.

Over the years, we’ve had the chance to make shirts for many of Delta Zeta’s events benefiting the Starkey Hearing Foundation. Featured here are some we made for the DZ chapter at Stockton University.

Delta Zeta has partnered with Starkey Hearing Foundation since 2006, but has been supporting the cause of speech and hearing since 1954. Funds raised at DZ events benefiting SHF contribute to their goal of providing one million hearing aids within ten years (that’s more than 175,000 hearing aids annually). DZ has also pledged to raise $5 million to support SHF’s work developing AfterCare Clinics across the globe.

In addition to raising money for SHF and other hearing loss prevention and speech programs, DZ members volunteer in support of these causes as well. You might find a DZ member tutoring a child with hearing difficulty or promoting methods to fight preventable hearing loss, particularly in May, which is Better Hearing and Speech Month. On the first Tuesday in May, DZ takes to the streets (or to social media) for Heart for Hearing Day, which is a prime opportunity to spread awareness of communications disorders and solicit donations.

Many chapters have fundraising events on Heart for Hearing Day, but you’ll find DZ chapters engaging in philanthropic efforts throughout the year! Anytime’s a good time to give back.
