Team Krissy Bone Marrow Drive

If you’re in the Los Angeles area on November 17th, I encourage you to register for the Kappa Kappa Gamma/Sigma Nu Team Krissy Bone Marrow Drive. I had this forwarded to me today from UCLA Sigma Nu about their philanthropy and an award they’re up for that could really help Krissy out:

Three years ago, Sigma Nu and Kappa Kappa Gamma at UCLA started a philanthropy to aid an alumnus’ daughter who suffered from a rare disease known as Myelodysplastic Syndrome (MDS). MDS inhibits normal red blood cell production and the only known cure is a bone marrow transplant. After learning about the Be The Match/ National Marrow Donor Program and their tireless efforts to expand the registry, our chapter initiated the first ever Sigma Nu/Kappa Kappa Gamma Team Krissy Bone Marrow Registration Drive. Through our two events we’ve registered 692 people including 272 minorities, an incredible number, considering the 8 million person registry is composed of less than 5% minority registrants. Three years after Krissy was diagnosed, she still hasn’t found her match. In fact, 70% of patients in need of a bone marrow transplant haven’t found their match either. At any moment, Krissy’s bone marrow could fail, a possibility none of us want to think about.

The Sigma Nu/Kappa Kappa Gamma Team Krissy Drive is just the beginning. With your help, we’ll be able to increase awareness about an incredible cause that affects thousands across the nation. Our next drive is November 17th at UCLA. Our goal is to register 750 people in one day–the largest one-day bone marrow registration drive ever held.

Our amazing cause (UCLA Sigma Nu) has been named a city finalist in Los Angeles for Most Influential College Student/ Organization at the 2nd Annual Stay Classy Awards, the largest national philanthropy awards. Please show your support by voting for us at: If we receive the most votes, we progress to the next round which is a the national level. The winner of the national level will receive $10,000 for their cause which will help ensure the continuity of this amazing philanthropy.
