Entering college is an exciting time: you start to really think about what you want to do for a career, you make some amazing friends, and you open up your minds to a number of new ideas and opportunities. Yet the pressure to succeed (especially if you want to get into a graduate program after four years) is always present and it is important to not let the stress weigh you down and diminish your GPA. Here are four incredibly smart things you can do to consistently get better grades and rock the next four years!
1. Join a Sorority or a Fraternity
The Greek life isn’t all about parties and fun & games (though it should be a lot of fun!). In actuality, various studies show that joining a sorority or fraternity makes one more likely to get the best grades and have the best college experience. For example, if you are a young lady heading into college, look at some of the top sororities and pledge one that shares the same values you hold important. Many sororities require that members maintain good GPAs and their work in philanthropy opens many doors for networking and putting out good energy into the world. Sororities also help you form fast and long-lasting friendships. Just look at various Greek organizations and you will see entire houses wearing custom sorority shirts showing off their pride in unified style. The Greek life calls for good grades, strong friendships, and opportunities for helping others thus making its option an ideal one for those who want to have a successful four years.
2. Join Study Groups
The grades you get in college have a huge impact on the next chapter in your life. Consider joining one of many study groups on campus. Study groups can have their own style and attract various types of people, so they are also great ways to make new friends. Some study groups revolve around members taking turns bringing baked goods to each meeting, while others focus on PowerPoint presentations or group research projects. Many sororities have their own study groups; you and your sisters can sport your custom sorority shirts with coffee in hand and really crack the books! Study groups can be held in a dorm room, in the quad, and even on the football field. Just find one that seems like a good fit and give it a shot!
3. Make Your Dorm Room Truly Comfortable
Studies show that students who create relaxing study spaces get better grades because the calming design elements foster better focus for studying, and promote a relaxing vibe for sleeping. See if the institute allows you to paint the walls; add some stylish furniture for small spaces, luxurious bedding, and put out some decorative items. A few plants will give a feeling of freshness (just be sure to water them) and some scented candles will create great ambiance.
4. Join a Sport
Whether you participate in track and field, join the softball team, or sign up for the tennis club, engaging in a sport helps feed the body and mind thus promoting better focus for getting killer grades. If you don’t have the time to commit to a team sport, then consider a gym membership or try to run in the mornings. There are jogging groups in colleges across America that are growing in popularity because there’s nothing like a morning run to boost your energy, clear your mind, and strengthen the body and mind!
